Business-related human rights abuses affect women disproportionately all over the world. Women workers face discrimination, harassment, abuse, and experience additional barriers when seeking remedies. In Sri Lanka, UNDP’s Business and Human Rights in Asia (B+HR Asia) project, funded by the European Union, supports grassroots level women’s rights organizations like ‘The Women’s Centre’.

The 2nd United Nations South Asia Forum on Business and Human Rights will take place 17–19 March 2021, with side sessions starting from 15 March. The forum will be featuring dedicated sessions for CSOs, businesses, trade unions, and NHRIs as well as country-specific sessions.

In 2021, UNDP will drive a wide range of national and regional events on Business and Human Rights (BHR) exploring a multitude of topics including Human Rights Due Diligence (HRDD) practice, policy development on BHR and Human Rights Defenders (HRD).

B+HR Asia is a joint action of the EU and UNDP. The action promotes and facilitates the implementation of the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs), and in the process, contributes to better human rights conditions, inclusive economic growth, and environmental sustainability. This progress report covers the period from 4 August 2020 to 31 December 2020.
